چکیده

For rock drilling applications, the cemented carbides containing hard WC grains in a ductile Co binder are commonly used as drill buttons. In considering environmental and health aspects an alternate to Co-binder is pursued. present work, using standard scratch testing friction wear properties of WC-20 vol% Ni grade studied compared that grade. The deformation characteristics carbide grades evaluated correlated microstructural changes during testing. Also, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) behavior as-polished scratch-tested was at open circuit potential condition simulated mine water (SMW) for 1 h. obtained polarization resistance charge transfer values from EIS analysis corrosion samples. both conditions WC-Ni exhibited higher indicating high than WC-Co. comparison sample, activity particular within scratch-induced tribo-layer. Severe complete removal tribo-layer observed WC-Co when exposed SMW 15 Site-specific scanning electron microscope (SEM) energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) were carried out get insight into carbides.

FRACTURE AND FATIGUE BEHAVIOR OF WC-Co AND WC-CoNi CEMENTED CARBIDES

The fracture and fatigue characteristics of several cemented carbide grades are investigated as a function of their microstructure. In doing so, the influence of binder chemical nature and content (Co and 76wt%Co-24wt%Ni), as well as carbide grain size on hardness, flexural strength, fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth (FCG) behavior is evaluated. Mechanical testing is combined with a d...

Focused Ion Beam tomography of WC-Co cemented carbides

The microstructure of three different grades of WC-Co cemented carbides has been reconstructed in three dimensions after sequential images obtained by focused ion beam. The three-dimensional microstructual parameters are compared against the well-know two-dimensional parameters of grain size, phase percentages and mean free path. Results show good agreement with the exception of individual grai...

Effect of WC/Co coherency phase boundaries on Fracture toughness of the nanocrystalline cemented carbides

The effect of coherency WC/Co phase boundaries on the fracture toughness of the nanocrystalline WC-Co cemented carbides is studied by MD simulation method. The simulation results show that the nanocrystalline WC-Co cemented carbides with coherency WC/Co phase boundaries has higher fracture toughness than that without coherency WC/Co phase boundaries. Moreover, the mechanism of why coherency WC/...

The Effect of sintering temperature on microstructure and hardness of milled WC- 20 wt.% equiatomic (Fe,Co) cemented carbides

In this study, WC–20 wt.% equiatomic (Fe,Co) powder mixture was milled in a planetary ball mill. The effects of different milling time (15 min, 5h, 10h, and 25 h) and sintering temperatures on the microstructure and mechanical properties of this equi-Fe substituted cermet were investigated. The structural evolution and the crystallite size changes of the powders during milling were monitored by...

Grinding effects on surface integrity and mechanical strength of WC-Co cemented carbides

In this study, the correlation existing among grinding, surface integrity, and flexural strength is investigated for WC-Co cemented carbides (hardmetals). A fine-grained WC-13 wt % Co grade and three different surface conditions: (1) ground, (2) mirror-like polished (reference), and (3) ground plus high-temperature annealed, are investigated. Surface integrity and mechanical characterization is...
